Chalkpit Cassette Club announces its third instalment, featuring London psych-rockers Volleyball.
Ringing in the festive season, Chalkpit Cassette Club is back with new treats for all the music lovers out there. Following the critical and commercial success of its previous releases featuring The Howl & The Hum and desert-rockers The Howlers, the club’s third instalment of limited edition, hand-numbered cassettes will celebrate long-standing Chalkpit favourites, Volleyball.Coming a long way from their first mention on the Chalkpit music blog, Volleyball have since released six singles and been remixed by psyche legends Morgan Delt and the Holydrug Couple, as well as developing a number of exciting visual projects following their collaboration with ‘The Rattle’ creative collective.

The world of Volleyball is a truly synesthetic experience. Mixing retro designs, hypnotic rhythms, saturated colours and DIY aesthetics, their music contains an undeniable sense of nostalgia and escapism. It is the sound of a good trip; one where the listener is transported to a vivid alternative universe, far away from the mundanity of the daily world. Even their website is an escapist sinkhole, featuring an arcade-styled videogame that is both charmingly simple and deceptively addictive.

Volleyball’s collaboration with the Chalkpit Cassette Club lies true to their DIY ethics. Titled ‘Nature doesn’t Rush’, it is named after their recent writing retreat to rural Norfolk. Whilst getting their creative juices flowing, the band also took the time to unwind and re-centre, spending their days “walking the dog, playing tennis and canoeing” as well as jamming together whenever it felt natural. A reminder to slow down and enjoy the process, this release will feature all six of their singles, alongside three remixes and unreleased 8 bit versions of their videogame soundtrack.
To celebrate the release of ‘Nature doesn’t Rush’ with the Chalkpit Cassette Club, Volleyball are hosting a free Christmas party for all of their fans at The Shacklewell Arms on the 12th of December, with plenty of live bands, DJs, craft stalls and festive party games. (Book here)
